TOEFL Exceptions
An Exception to the TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS requirements may be granted in the following cases:
- The applicant has successfully completed thirty (30) transferable, academic semester
credits at a regionally or nationally accredited college or university in the United States.
- The applicant has successfully completed the equivalent of thirty (30) transferable,
academic semester credits at a recognized college or university in a country in which
English is the official language.
- The applicant has successfully completed the equivalent of thirty (30) transferable,
academic semester credits at a recognized college or university in the Phillippines where
English is the sole language of instruction.
- The applicant has successfully completed the equivalent of thirty (30) transferable,
academic semester credits at a recognized institution where English is the sole medium of
instruction. This can be verified by a CRS in University Services via the International
Handbook of Universities or on official letterhead sent directly from the institution to
the campus.
- A letter sent directly from the institution, on institution letterhead, to the University
of Phoenix stating English is the sole medium of instruction.
NOTE: For graduate applicants that are requesting to be exempted from the TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS
esam based upon the completion of 30 U.S. semester transferable credits, an UNOFFICIAL transcript
may be used to determine those 30 credits. Since no transfer credit is being awarded it is an
acceptable practice to use UNOFFICIAL transcripts for this admission requirement. Please note
that only unofficial transcripts issued by the insitituion(s) are acceptable; grade cards, web
prints or student advisement sheets are unacceptable for this purpose.
TOEFL Exemption
Countries in which English is the official language. If your country is listed here, you will
not have to take the TOEFL.

The University of Hong Kong, McGill University in Quebec, Canada, and the National
University of Singapore are English medium institutions. Some colleges within universities
in India also offer courses and degrees in which English is the medium of instruction.
Official documentation showing English as the medium of instruction is required for a TOEFL
exemption.
