I usually read testimonials on various sites and I say "these people probably got paid, it is probably not true”, but I can say that I am transformed. I think differently, my writing skills improved, and I'm much more tactful in my communication. I feel more confident interacting with my executives on "business" issues and these changes I've carried into my personal life. My work colleagues have noticed, and my friends have noticed the changes.
Why did you decide to pursue your degree at this stage in your life?
I have an Honors Degree in Management from the University of the West Indies in Barbados and the PHR certification in HR. I am currently a member of the local HR association and the Society for HR Management (SHRM). I have 17 years work experience that spans the Financial, Administrative and HR fields within Retail, Public Sector, Education, off shore, Call Centers and now Petroleum. Currently my portfolio supports 22 countries in the Caribbean for compensation and benefits and requires extensive travel.
I thought it was time to expand my professional development. This Master’s degree opens additional options to me. I currently hold the HR certification (PHR) from the HRCI and an undergraduate Degree in Management. However, this has been limiting me to the HR field. I wanted to be seen as an International Business Executive FIRST, who happens to have specialty training and certification in the HR field. This degree allows me to change the way I am perceived by my peers.
What attracted you to University of Phoenix Online?
The Enrollment Advisor that pursued me was very knowledgeable and supportive without being aggressive and harassing like some other online universities.
How would you describe the University of Phoenix Online learning experience?
Excellent. The instructors were very knowledgeable and guided a classroom full of people with different cultures and varying academic backgrounds expertly!
What would you tell fellow country men or women considering University of Phoenix Online today?
It is much more demanding than you anticipate and you really can only select when to enroll in a course, but after you enroll, you can't learn at your own pace, since there are constant deadlines in this accelerated program. You need to be very disciplined and great at balancing work in the office, personal time and University of Phoenix Online time.
